Creating the Ceremony

This is a joyous time.  A love-filled time.  A spirit-filled time.  A sacred time.  It is a time that is preparing you for the rest of your lives.

Our First Meeting

Our first meeting will begin the creative process of crafting a ceremony that honors that which is uniquely you.  I will be asking you to share with me the story of your love, your hopes, dreams, and visions for your future, and the rituals, traditions, and practices that are important to you.  This is the fun part! During this meeting I will use my years of experience to guide you in the creative process of crafting a ceremony that reflects your personalities, your traditions, and your love, bringing it to life with the participants, rituals, and language that is most authentically you.

I will provide you with tools to assist you in co-creating your ceremony with me, including:

  • An anthology of poetry, prayers, and readings representing a diversity of backgrounds, understandings, and practices, including contemporary and secular. You may wish to include some of these selections in your ceremony, or you may wish to provide your own meaningful choices.

  • A collection of sample vows, which can be used as written, or "mixed and matched", or used as inspiration to write your own personal vows.

  • A step-by-step guide to writing personal vows, for those who wish to do so.

  • A timeline to assist you with organizing the many details that are part of creating a successful wedding ceremony.

  • A series of thought-provoking reflection questions designed to provide me with more insight into who you are as individuals and as a couple, which will assist me in the writing of your ceremony.  But even more importantly, these questions will serve to reinforce for you all the beautiful reasons you are choosing to spend your lives together.

Our Second Meeting

Our second meeting will be to review the first draft of your wedding ceremony, and to confirm that everything is exactly as you envisioned it to be.  Should any changes need to be made, we'll make those changes together during our meeting. This is a wonderful meeting!  For the first time you get to "try on" your ceremony and see that it fits.  You start to feel into what your wedding day is going to be like. Rather than taking away any of the magic of your wedding day, getting a preview allows you to relax into your wedding day, knowing it will be just right!

The Rehearsal

Whether a formal rehearsal at  your venue involving a full run-through of your ceremony and the coordination of your entire wedding party, or as an informal pre-ceremony review, I will meet with you at least one more time prior to your wedding day.  At this time we will review the logistics of your ceremony, the staging, what to bring with you, how it's going to unfold, who is going to be involved, and the details of the processional and recessional. Being comfortable and well-prepared will allow you to relax and enjoy your wedding ceremony, allowing me to guide you through an experience you (and your guests) will remember the rest of your lives.

Your Wedding Day!

On the day of your ceremony you can expect me to arrive approximately one hour  before the ceremony is scheduled to begin. You will have access to me before that time should there be a need for any last minute changes.

When I arrive, I coordinate with the venue staff, the photographers, and the musicians or DJ so that everyone involved is aware of the details and logistics of your ceremony, and the ways in which those details will affect their roles. I'll be meeting with both of you to reassure you that your only job is to relax and be in love!  I'll be lining up  your wedding party for the processional, with the assistance of the wedding staff.

And then the moment you have been waiting a lifetime for begins! As the music begins to play and your ceremony starts to unfold, you will have complete confidence that this will be a ceremony that has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect who you are and the essential nature of the transformational event that is about to occur.

My commitment to you is that I will keep you relaxed and present as I gently guide you and your participants through the beautiful ceremony that we co-created together. All you need to do is fully immerse yourselves in the magic that is meant to be yours.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a wedding officiant is a highly personal matter.  How will you know that we are a good fit for one another?

If

  • the words you have just read touch something deep within you,

  • you see the ceremony as being the most important part of your wedding day,

  • you welcome the opportunity to take time to reflect  upon this next chapter of your lives and your vision for the future,

  • you’re excited by the prospect of creating a ceremony that is uniquely yours,

then I know that we are right for each other, and that your hearts, and the hearts of your guests, will be permanently touched.

I bring to each ceremony great warmth and deep respect for every couple, and I experience great joy with being trusted to facilitate the profound experience of a wedding day. It is an honor, one I never get tired of.  Because no matter how many ceremonies I have facilitated, I have never married you before, and each ceremony is a unique expression of love.

If you share that same vision, then I would be most pleased if you would contact me so that we can begin the process of creating the magic you deserve.
